Ah-ha! Muscles – Naomi
I’ve always never understood why certain asana poses were tough for me to do. And today after our theory class on body muscles, I finally understood why.
Uttanasana, Adho Mukha Shvanasana, and Prasarita Padottanasana (D&C) came naturally to me. I must admit, I did work on Uttanasana for quite sometime to get it to where it is today. So there I was thinking my hamstrings are pretty flexible so other similar poses which require flexible hamstrings would come easy… WRONG!
I can barely place my elbows on the floor for Upavisth Konasana.
I have difficulty getting closer to the ground for Hanumanasana.
I could always feel my hamstrings stretch but felt a lot of dicomfort in the groin area without being able to place my finger on exactly what it was. I had always thought my hips were uneven creating this discomfort.
Now I know through Jessica’s theory class my iliacus, adductor longus, and adductor magnus were the ones which required much more TLC!
It felt like I saw the light to the end of the tunnel for this particular challenge I had been facing for quiet sometime. Now that I’m more aware of the exact part I need to focus on, I’ll be able to address it through warm ups and asanas.
Anjaneyasana, Baddha Konasana, and Utthan Pristhasana will become one of my favorite asanas I’m sure!
I look forward to studying more about the body anatomy, as I feel that is one of the key knowledge I must have to allow me to help others with their own practice.
