Ashtanga Day 1

It’s Day 1 and even though we didn’t do any physical practise today, my brain is massively overloaded with (good!) information. I’ve come to the conclusion that Ashtanga Yoga is a practice that teaches you physical discipline as well as mental discipline; I almost feel like if I can do Ashtanga I can do ANYTHING.

We learned the opening and closing mantras (thank god for solfege) and watched the entire Primary Series led by Pattabhi Jois. I never noticed how specific the movements for the asanas were and how intense their transitions can be, now I understand why Ashtangis are ridiculously strong. Today’s homework is to memorize the opening and closing mantras and to come up with preparatory poses for the sun salutation sequences.
