Tapas is the practice of discipline and self control. It means ‘heat’ and refers to an inner fire or energy which enables one to control the body and the mind. Tapas was one niyama i didn’t really quite understand at the start. I’ve now come to understand it as the disciplines we add in our lives in order for our minds to be on the right track, to rid of impurities. I see this as carving out time to exercise daily, mindfulness and eating healthily. It’s actually difficult. Because it’s supposed to be intense. I know results will show after the painful period and the change eventually becomes more enjoyable, creating more energy thus making it easy to continue. So here I go.. instilling discipline in my daily life in the areas of mindfulness, healthy eating and daily exercises.
