3/6: Tiffany. Acro Yoga and Brazilian Jiujitsu

On our very last class, Jessica introduced us to the art of Brazilian Jiu-jitsu… Oppsss.. I meant Acro Yoga. 😂 This is my very first experience with Acro Yoga and after giving it a try, I realized that there’s a lot of similarities between acro Yoga and Brazilian jiu-jitsu.

For those who don’t know what Brazilian Jiu-jitsu is, Brazilian JiuJitsu (BJJ) is a grappling-based martial art whose central theme is the skill of controlling a resisting opponent in ways that force him to submit.

You might start to wonder… What’s the link between acro and bjj!? I’m not trying to choke my partner while doing acro! In bjj, a lot of the submissions and chokes requires a good balance and sense of weight distribution of your opponent. It helps if you have a strong base. And I guess that’s the reason why I have a strong base when helping my partners to fly.

After trying out acro, I was pretty convinced that most fighters / martial arts practitioners would enjoy it. And I decided to put my theory to test. I posted a few videos of my acro practice on my instastory and my Bjj coach responded with this:

I even tried doing acro Yoga with one of the Olympic wrestlers from the Singapore National Team and we nailed it on our second try!!
